Field Burning - Status
Governor and DEQ Stall Field Burning Action
The Governor directed the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality to work on a plan to phase-out field burning and introduce it to the 2009 Legislature. That’s the good news. The bad news is that they don’t plan to phase-out burning until 2016. That would be eight more years we, the public, get to suffer and choke while a few grass seed farmers continue to profit by using this outdated practice.
Oregon Toxics Alliance continues to work with the Western Environmental Law Center to put an end to field burning once and for all. We continue to fight for clean air. You can join the fight by contacting the Governor and your state legislator and telling them you want field burning to stop now. Stories of how it affects you or someone you love personally are most effective. Written letters have the most influence. E-mails and phone calls come after that. Contact your representatives today.
