Pesticides and the BLM - Take Action!

Oregon's BLM is proposing to increase the number of herbicides approved for use on BLM land from 4 to 18 and they want to hear from you.

They are seeking comments through July 28, 2008. Comments can be submitted by mail, email, on-line, or in person at one of the public meetings. The public meetings will be held across the state in July. View the Schedule page for more details.

OTA urges you to submitt comments on this important issue.

OTA's position is:

  • Only Integrated Vegetation Management should be used in forests, with herbicides as one of the last options.
  • Non-toxic methods such as goats, replanting with native species, etc. should be tried over the next few years first before resorting to chemicals.
  • There should not be any increase in the use of herbicides from current amounts used
  • Only less toxic products than those currently being used should be allowed in Oregon. Click here for a list of those currently being used and proposed for use.
